Tyler |Canine Wellness Coach

Thanks for being here, I'm Tyler!

Like you, I've experienced challenges at times living with the dogs I've brought into my life. I found the traditional model of dog training abrasive and did not align with how I viewed my dogs (valued members of my family), so I had to make a decision. Keep blindly accepting what was recommended to me at the time, or question things and dig deeper.

Here I am now, I've been a multi-certified canine professional for almost 10 years, qualified through the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers.

Previously, the traditional model of dog training as a service didn't resonate with me, didn't help me with my own dogs, and, truthfully, burnt me out, so I'm here to offer something different.

When dog behaviour is viewed through the lens of applied ethology (as I utilise now), the dog is seen as a whole, complex being rather than a collection of problems to fix. From there, thoughtful training and lifestyle adaptations lead to meaningful, lasting transformation.

I’m honoured to guide people like you, who are seeking more than surface-level training reach more peace and alignment. My goal is that you leave with a deeper appreciation for your dog and clarity to promote a better life with them going forward.

I'm grateful there's people like you, making more ethical, informed decisions about improving life with their dog x

What is a Canine Wellness Coach?

I have moved away from labelling myself a "dog trainer" because it did not accurately capture my place within this landscape. Sure, training is a part of a Canine Wellness Plan I can create for you, but it's not everything, nor is it the most important aspect.

Accompanying training, within a plan includes:

  • Ensuring sound mental and physical health

  • Assessing appropriate nutrition

  • Providing considerate environmental conditions

  • Offering breed/species-specific enrichment

I have found the "training" aspect will fall short if the others above are ignored.

I’m also not here to “train your dog for you.” That approach might create short-term improvement, but it doesn’t empower you, which I find extremely devaluing. My role is to coach and support you so you understand your dog deeply, build practical skills, and feel confident navigating challenges long after our sessions end. You become capable, not dependent.

The title Canine Wellness Coach better represents the gap I fill, supporting behavioural wellness as a coach, not just obedience outcomes as a trainer.

Why does this matter? Because the growing rates of rehoming, behavioural breakdown, and dog-related incidents tell us something isn’t working within the mold we expect dogs to fit into. Many dogs are living in humancentric environments that don’t account for their instincts, genetics, or behavioural needs. When we try to “train away” those unmet needs instead of addressing them, frustration builds on both ends of the leash and we circle back to the above.

My work is a small but intentional shift in the direction towards helping guardians build lifestyles that honour their dog’s biology while still fitting into modern, human life. It’s about replacing outdated narratives with education, compassion, and evidence-based strategies so you can live in genuine harmony with your dog, with their welfare and your sanity intact!
